The Mental Health First Aid training is a course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The training helps you identify, understand, and respond to signs of addictions and mental illnesses. The MHFA SNC Instructors teach this in a blended delivery. Learners complete a 2-hour, self-paced online pre-course and participate in a 5.5 hour instructor-led training. This is open to students, staff and faculty. There is a minimum of 5 people needed to run a course and a max of 30 people in one course.
What you learn:
- Risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems
- Information on depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and additions disorders
- A 5-step plan to help someone developing a mental health problem or in crisis
- Where to turn for help - professional, peer, and self-help resources
Mental Health First Aid teaches about recovery and resiliency- the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use their strengths to stay well.
