Norbertine Leadership and Service Awards

Exemplary Leadership Award - selfless devotion to the community

The Norbertine Leadership and Service Awards program celebrates lives lived in service to the common good. Award recipients are selected by committees made up of staff, faculty and students. The whole process culminates at the awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the F. K. Bemis International Center.

  • Exemplary Leadership Award

    This award honors several students from each class who have made outstanding contributions to meaningful change on campus, locally, nationally or beyond. Nominations for the Exemplary Leadership Award may be submitted by faculty, staff or fellow students. Students MUST be a full-time student at St. Norbert College.

    The Exemplary Leadership Award is awarded to several students from each class who demonstrate high involvement in campus and community service, awareness of and action in congruence with personal values, and a commitment to making a difference.

    Faculty, staff and fellow students are encouraged to nominate all students they would like to be considered for this award. All nominees will be contacted and encouraged to submit the complete application for the Exemplary Leadership Award as well as any other cash awards or scholarships they are eligible for.

    Nominations will be available in November 2023 and are due by 8 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024.

  • Awards of Distinction

    These scholarships and cash awards require an application that includes a personal statement, resume and list of involvements at SNC. Some scholarships require an additional essay. Guidelines and eligibility criteria are listed on the Award Descriptions page. Students MUST be a full-time student at St. Norbert College.

    The Awards of Distinction require an application packet that includes your resume and a personal statement. The Ashmore and Harvey Memorial Scholarship requires an additional essay.

    Please note, not all awards are offered yearly and the actual dollar amount may vary from year to year depending on endowment income. The amounts listed below reflect what was awarded last year.

  • Beloved Community Social Justice Award

    One student and one staff member will each be recognized annually with the Beloved Community Social Justice Award. Nominations for the Beloved Community Social Justice Award may be submitted by faculty, staff or students. Award recipients will receive a certificate and a donation to charity of recipient’s choice. Students MUST be a full-time student at St. Norbert College.

    This award will be given annually to one student and one faculty or staff member who has actively worked to make the St. Norbert community a more just, equitable environment, for more of our members, fulfilling the vision of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Beloved Community.” Through this award our community will name and acclaim those in our midst who most actively promote communio by "embracing all people" and "affirming the sacred dignity of all persons," as expressed in the SNC mission statement.

    The recipients of this award receive a plaque and a donation is made to the charity of their choice in their name. The donation is provided by the Norman Miller Center for Peace, Justice & Public Understanding.

    Nomination criteria

    Award nominees should be faculty, staff, or students who:

    • have demonstrated through their speech and action what Dr. King called “the solidarity of the human family”
    • have demonstrated a commitment to building a campus community where every member has an equitable opportunity to succeed
    • have addressed the particular needs of underrepresented populations in our community
    • have helped change our community into a more just community, for more of us

    This is the nomination form for the Beloved Community Social Justice Award.

    The deadline for nominations is Friday, Feb. 23, 2024.

  • Educator of the Year Awards

    All campus employees are eligible for the Educator of the Year Award. Nominees should be a faculty or staff member who actively contributes to the college community beyond the call of duty in order to inspire and empower students.

    Nominees for the Educator of the Year Award should be a faculty or staff member who:

    • inspires and empowers students to learn, grow and develop confidence
    • leads by example and essentially lives the mission of SNC
    • encourages and motivates students through consistent feedback that helps them realize their full potential
    • is actively engaged in, and contributes to, the college community above and beyond the call of duty by realizing their own gifts and sharing them with others

    Differentiating Faculty and Staff

    • Staff: Primary duties are outside of the classroom
    • Faculty: Responsible for curriculum and those aspects of student life related to the educational process (i.e. professors)

    All campus employees are eligible for this award, but only students may submit nominations. Each student can nominate one faculty and one staff member total.

    This is the nomination form for Educator of the Year.

    You may nominate for as many awards as you wish, but each requires you to fill out the form a separate time.
