College house FAQs

  • Where can I park?

Students can park in the driveway, but not every house has enough space to accommodate a car for every resident. Each college house page lists how many cars can fit into each house’s driveway. Students cannot park over the sidewalk or park vehicles in the garage. Students will not have access to the garage so do not plan on using it or storing anything in it. When a student’s vehicle needs to be moved, students are allowed to park in any of the student lots for the designated time. Students will be notified of any vehicle moves 24 hours in advance by either an Area Coordinator, Facilities, or Campus Safety. For more detailed information, please follow this link.

  • Are shovels and salt provided in the winter?

Shovels will be provided in early November by Facilities. Facilities will drop them off at each college house. If residents need salt at any point throughout the winter, students can get some by putting in a work order.

  • Am I responsible for lawn care?

Students are not responsible for mowing the lawn. However, in the winter, students are responsible for the upkeep of the property. This means shoveling the driveway, porch and steps. Most importantly, students need to shovel the sidewalk in front of the property. This is not only a St. Norbert College requirement, but also required by the City of De Pere.

  • Can I store personal furniture in my college house over the summer?

Due to personal property liability, the college will no longer permit personal furniture storage over the summer.

  • What furniture is provided in the college houses?

This year, due to damages and health related concerns (i.e., allergies) no living room furniture will be provided. Any furniture that students want in the living rooms must be provided and stored by the residents of that house.

Each bedroom will be provided a desk and desk chair, bed frame with mattress and dresser.

Each house will be given one table and four chairs for the dining room. Every house, regardless of the number of residents, will have four chairs.

College provided furniture cannot be moved outside of the house. Residents can choose to move the furniture around in other rooms in the house, but all furniture must be returned to its original placement in the house when students move out.

  • Can we use the basement?

Students can use the basement, but they must follow the housing guidelines. The following items are not permitted: Bars, extension cords, anything hanging from the ceiling or taped to the insulation. This list is not all-inclusive and students are responsible for knowing the housing agreement policies and the upperclass living guidelines posted on the REH website.

  • What are health and safety checks?

Health and safety checks are monthly inspections done by REH staff to check for fire safety, cleanliness, and to address policy violations as needed. House residents do not need to have someone present at the house for these checks to happen. Students will be notified via email at least 24 hours in advance of the health and safety checks.

  • Can I have a grill at my college house? Can I have a fire pit outside?

Students can have a grill. Students cannot store the grill inside and it must be used at least 15 feet from any building. Any fire pit, or fires of any kind, are not permitted.

  • Can I have an air conditioning unit?
