Research at St. Norbert College takes shape in many forms, across numerous departments across the college. Our faculty lead the college's work in this area and are: engaged in their own research, often through grants; collaborate with students on research projects; oversee student independent research projects; and often assign research projects as part of a course. Regardless of its form or the parties involved, St. Norbert College maintains high ethical standards for research.
Funding Your Research
Academic Affairs helps faculty and staff to secure external funding for projects that fulfill the mission of St. Norbert College. We offer assistance across the entire spectrum of sponsored projects, from identifying potential funding sources to submitting proposals to managing awards. By assisting faculty and staff in securing grants, we help SNC move forward in scholarly research, program development, and student success.
We assist faculty and staff in:
Intent to Seek Funding
Successful grant proposals take time. You should allow yourself a year to submit a grant. Give yourself enough time to allow for research, collaboration, relationship building and writing the grant. If you are ready to begin the process please fill out the Intent to Seek Funding Form and a member of the grants team will be in touch with the next steps.
Finding a Funder
The first step in obtaining funding for your project is to determine where to apply. Project funds can be obtained through internal or external sources:
Internally, the Office of Faculty Development has funds for curricular and instructional projects, professional development, pedagogical conferences, faculty-student research, and more. Externally, the grants team assists in identifying funding opportunities that go beyond this scope and may require a more substantial amount of dollars. These funds are typically derived from private foundations, government agencies, and corporate foundations.
If you’ve determined an external grant is warranted for your plan, fill out the Intent to Seek Funding Form and a member of the grants team will be in touch with the next steps. Based on your specific project and goals, we will research potential funders and work to narrow down possible matches for financial support.
The most frequently accessed source of funding for research and programs is through grants. Getting a grant is a multi-step process that requires time and planning. Most grant applications take several weeks to complete. This means that it is essential that grant seekers understand the proposal process, IRB process, and if successfully awarded the subsequent grant reporting requirements. Depending on the funder (e.g. federal or state), additional stipulations may apply. Please reach out to Academic Affairs grant staff early in the process by completing this Intent to Seek Funding Form.
