Services for Students with Disabilities

Accommodations are modifications or adjustments to methods, programs, services, activities or facilities that enable a student with a documented disability - whose health, mobility, or other issues may impact their ability to equally access those services - to be granted equal opportunity in their education.

Academic Accommodations

The Office of Academic Success, Support & Accessibility can grant appropriate modifications or assistance to course/educational experiences. OASSA does not have the ability to fundamentally alter any course to accommodate a student. Additionally, OASSA is unable to provide retroactive accommodations for past exams or assignments completed before accommodations were established.
*To protect student confidentiality, we cannot facilitate accommodations in student courses until we receive acknowledgement that the professor has received the student's accommodation plan.

Dietary Accommodations

Students residing in traditional residence halls are required to be on a resident meal plan based on their class standing. We realize in certain situations, students may need to request special dietary alterations. Through this process students are referred to meet with the campus Registered Dietitian to review requested needs and together determine appropriate accommodations.

Housing Accommodations

The Office of Academic Success, Support & Accessibility (OASSA) verifies the legal and reasonable accommodations for the student. If the accommodation is granted, Residential Education and Housing (REH) will work on placement once verification is received. OASSA does not have the ability to stipulate housing preferences. All housing accommodations are subject to availability and in some cases, students may be placed on a waiting list.

Emotional Support Animals and Service Animals

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is a companion animal which provides therapeutic benefit. Once an ESA is established, students must adhere to all guidelines and submit yearly verification of appropriate vaccinations, licensing, and letter of animal wellness.
----------------------------
Service Animals are defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Service animals are working animals, not pets. Individuals who wish to bring a service animal to campus - including classrooms and other St. Norbert College buildings open to the public - may do so without prior approval. Students are strongly encouraged to let OASSA know to facilitate a smooth transition to campus.

Medical Withdrawal Process

A medical withdrawal is defined as a physical or mental health condition that developed after the last date to withdraw and is severe enough to keep a student from attending classes and/or successfully completing academic requirements. Additionally, a medical withdrawal can be defined as a physical or mental health issue that developed before the last day to withdraw, but the condition did not respond to treatment as expected.

Medical withdrawal requests must begin in the Office of Academic Success, Support and Accessibility (OASSA) to properly collect medical documentation from an off campus licensed provider. On occasion, documentation may be permissible from SNC campus services if an established relationship of care exists. The request will be sent to the Vice President of Academic Affairs once all documents have been collected by OASSA. If approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the registrar will be notified to withdraw the student based on the last date of attendance. The grade will be recorded based on the last date of attendance.

All documents will be securely housed and retained according to HIPAA compliance in OASSA.
