1098T

The 1098T form is used by St Norbert College to report student information to the IRS as required by the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. St Norbert College is required to submit the student’s name, address, taxpayer identification number (TIN), enrollment status, qualified tuition and related expenses amounts (QTRE), scholarships and/or grants (taxable or not).

The 1098T form is informational only and should not be considered tax advice. If you have questions about your particular tax situation, St Norbert College recommends you consult with a qualified tax professional or refer to IRS Publication 970.

  • How and when do I receive my 1098T tax form?

    Electronic delivery: Students and authorized proxies, will receive an email notification when the latest 1098T is available in Knightline, on or before January 31st. At that time the 1098T will be available to view and print in your Knightline account.

    Mail delivery: A paper copy of the 1098T is mailed on or before January 31st to students no longer enrolled at St. Norbert College or who have Opted Out of electronic delivery.

  • Your 1098T at a Glance

    Box 1- Shows payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses (QTRE) from the noted calendar year. Payments include cash, check, credit card, ACH, wire, loans, scholarships and grants. The total payments reported is limited to the total amount of QTRE billed during the calendar year.
    Payments for room and board are not QTRE and therefore are not included in box 1.

    NOTE: Payments that are made in December for the following spring semester will be included in the next calendar years 1098T. However, tax payers are able to use their own financial records and/or detail from their student account billing statements to calculate the educational tax benefit and substantiate their claim. Please see IRS Publication 970 for additional information.

    Box 4- Shows any adjustment made for any prior year for qualified tuition and related expenses that were reported on a prior year's 1098T. This amount could reduce any allowable education credit that you claimed for any prior year.

    Box 5- Shows the total of all scholarships, grants and third party payments received from the noted calendar year.

    Box 6- Shows the amount of adjustments to grants and scholarships for a prior year. This amount could reduce any allowable education credit you can claim for any prior year.

  • How to request a duplicate or lost 1098T

    Current students and authorized proxies: You can access your 1098T form in Knightline under Tax Documents.
    Former students: You can request a copy by emailing studentaccounts@snc.edu your name, student ID, and current mailing address.
