What is FERPA?
FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, is a U.S. federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. It outlines the rights of parents and students regarding access to, and disclosure of, these records. FERPA applies to all schools that receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
How does FERPA connect to Judicial Affairs?
In order for the Judicial Affairs office to share anything with parents or guardians, the student would need to fill out a FERPA release form. If the student has not filled out the FERPA release form our office can only go over general policy questions.
Separate FERPA release forms for different offices
Unfortunately, there is no single form to fill out that will grant a parent or guardian full access to all of the student's information. Each department will require a separate FERPA release form to be completed. Please reach out to Faith Bradbury if you are looking to fill out a Judicial Affairs FERPA release form.
