On Sept. 17, many students gathered together in the Mulva Library to be inducted into Sigma Tau Delta. The International English Honor Society, or Sigma Tau Delta, is an organization that dedicates itself to study and advocate for literature. The society has chapters all across colleges in the US and all over the world. Alpha Tau has been St. Norbert’s chapter of the society for many decades.

Members are invited to join the society. The inductees have to have either an English major or minor, have taken three English courses, be a second-year standing or higher and have at least a 3.0 GPA.

One of the events that members get the privilege to attend is the Sigma Tau Delta Annual Convention. The convention is an opportunity for English students and some alumni to gather and discuss their interests. Every convention also has a keynote speaker who is typically a well-known writer. Another draw of the convention is the opportunity for students to submit papers or other written works. If their works are accepted, they can sit on themed panels and talk through some of their writings. Professor Laurie MacDiarmid said that she enjoyed all the previous conventions that she went to, especially in Pittsburgh, her hometown.

The SNC chapter regularly holds meeting and sponsors events such as book drives. The chapter also started the free library by the Shakespeare Garden on campus. MacDiarmid expresses confidence that the chapter will do more in the coming months.
