As we approach finals week, it’s the time of the year to acknowledge the beauty of SNC in the springtime and into the summer. As a senior, I’ve witnessed SNC’s springs and falls, and as beautiful as our campus is during the fall, when everything is coming back alive in the spring, our campus is really beautifully green. I think the amount of rain we got a little over a week ago helped out with this beautiful weather, but it makes it harder to focus on classes. To me, it’s the time to go and spend time outside. So, let’s look at some various places on campus that you can take advantage of.
One of my favorite things is to study outside on the docks at the tables behind the campus center. It’s quiet. You might have the occasional duck or pelican or boat, but it’s really relaxing by the river, and it needs to be taken advantage of while you’re here. One of the best feelings is getting a drink at Ed’s and going to work on assignments at the docks. Even for hanging out with friends, it’s my go-to spot when the weather is nice.
While writing this article, I’m sitting at Ed’s and enjoying the weather while being inside. Ed’s or Phil’s are very quiet during weekdays, and with a lot of natural light available, it makes it a bit easier to just study, finish up work and have a snack or meal without having to be in the heat. I know for me, writing a paper or studying with natural light or big windows helps me focus. It could be the opposite for others, but I also love observing what’s going on around campus.
Don’t be afraid to use the hammock areas that are spread around campus! Even if you don’t own a hammock, you can borrow one from the Campus Center, which is a nice way to try out hammocking before investing in your own. Nothing beats a sunny afternoon hammocking while reading or just relaxing.
One thing that I’m especially looking forward to is the End of the Year Picnic. It’s my last one, and every year has been a little bit different. I’m going to miss it. This is one event that I definitely wouldn’t overlook; it’s a fun way to hang out with friends and a great excuse to take a break. The fun activities make the time fly. It's a perfect way to end your semester away from the stress of preparing for finals week.
No matter what kind of person you are, you should find ways to enjoy the beauty of springtime SNC in preparation for the long-awaited summer break. So, take time to enjoy this beautiful weather on campus; these options will be gone for you after college. I know I’ll miss it.
