EA, or Electronic Arts, is a company that creates and distributes video game titles. EA distributes games and franchises such as The Sims, Apex Legends, FIFA and Madden.
Recently, a deal was made behind the scenes. On Sept. 29, 2025, EA announced that they were going to be officially selling their company to The Consortiums, which is made up of three different companies: Saudi Arabia’s PIF, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners. All three companies will take full ownership and further management of EA’s game titles moving forward, making EA a private company that no longer has shares or shareholders.
The Shareholders will each be paid $210 per share that they currently own, which is higher than what each was previously worth in the market. This deal is very beneficial to the shareholders and EA as a company, making it more likely that the deal will go through in the year 2027.
The investors and companies buying EA are very excited for this deal as it could be extremely beneficial for the gaming industry. There is speculation that because these are private companies without shareholders involved, games could be less financially driven, and projects could have more time to be worked on. There are some potential drawbacks to this deal as well. For example, there could be more censorship in games. The Saudi Arabian government is against certain ideals that may result in game sensorization, which was not implemented into the games previously. All of this is just speculation; however, knowing what is known about the companies that are buying EA.
Currently, the deal has not officially gone through, but is scheduled to be an official merger in early 2027.
