1. Be a password genius

   These tips are applicable not only to the password for your SNC account, but for all passwords that you maintain for any account (online movies, dining, banking, etc).

   • Don't share passwords - Don't share your passwords with anyone, even a trusted friend or coworker. At St. Norbert College, if you share your username and password, you can be locked out of your account.
   • Don't reuse passwords - Don't use the same password for all of your accounts. If someone discovers that password, they will have access to all of your accounts. Consider using a password management tool to keep your passwords safe and to save you the headache of trying to remember multiple passwords.
   • Use strong passwords - Strong passwords are difficult to guess but easy to remember. For example, try using a phrase or sentence.
2. Protect confidential information

   If you have access to view student accounts (i.e. professor who enters grades), never share that information with anyone else. It's your responsibility to insure the confidentiality of that data.

3. Lock your screen when stepping away

   When you step away from your computer, even for a few minutes, lock the screen.

   • For Windows users, hold the Windows key and press the "L" key. If you carry a smartphone with Bluetooth, consider setting up your computer to lock automatically when you step away.
   • For MacOS users, hold the Control and Command keys and press "Q".
4. Act responsibly and ethically with SNC resources

   Never use SNC resources for commercial purposes or to conduct illegal activities.

5. Backup critical files

   Always backup critical files so in the event of a catastrophic storage failure, you won’t have a catastrophic data loss. This can be done by simply storing all of your files on Google Drive. If needed, download a file to your computer for use, then upload it back to Google Drive when you're done. Doing this regularly gives you peace of mind and allows you to easily restore critical files.
