Where Can I Vote?

Who can vote?

To be eligible to vote in an election, you must be a U.S. citizen and 18 years of age on or before Election Day. To be eligible to vote in Wisconsin, you must also have resided in Wisconsin for at least 28 consecutive days before the election. Being a full-time student at SNC fulfills this requirement, so all students who are eligible voters can vote here in De Pere.

Voting is a great way to have your voice heard in the government. There are many recourses available to help you learn about what is on your ballot, including guides.vote and Vote 411.

Most Engaged Campus

St. Norbert College has joined 394 colleges and universities in earning the inaugural ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting recognition! This award recognizes the intentional work their institution did in 2022 and 2024 to institutionalize nonpartisan democratic engagement to increase student voter turnout.

Gold Campus

St. Norbert College has been awarded a gold seal by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for achieving a student voting participation rate between 40 and 49% for the 2018 midterms. A full list of seal awardees can be viewed here.
The Challenge encourages higher education institutions to help students form habits of active and informed citizenship, and make democratic participation a core value on their campus.

Registering to Vote

Option 1: Register to vote online using your campus address

All full-time SNC students who are eligible to vote may choose to vote here in De Pere. Using your campus address (100 Grant St. plus your mailbox [suite] number), in-state students who have a WI drivers license or state ID can register online at myvote.wi.gov. Out-of-state students can receive a voter card by bringing their student ID to Campus Card Services in Michels Commons. Use https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/Register-To-Vote to change an out of state student address to: 100 Grant St. De Pere, WI 54115. Bring proof of residence, student ID, and campus voting card to the city clerk's office to register. Option 2: Register by mail You may register to vote by mail

Option 3: Register to vote in another state

If you plan to vote somewhere other than in Wisconsin, check with your state or local election office to confirm your registration, using your permanent home address. Get more information on your state.

Option 4: Register at the Wisconsin polling place on Election Day

Wisconsin is one of the few states that allows eligible citizens to register at the polling place on Election Day. If you choose to vote in De Pere or your home precinct in Wisconsin on Election Day, you have the option of registering at the polling station. If you plan to register and vote at the De Pere polling place (600 Grant St.), use your campus address (100 Grant St. plus your mailbox [suite] number) on the registration form. If you live on campus, the City Clerk will already have your proof of residence. If you live off campus, you will need to bring a proof of residence, such as a utility bill with your name and local address. Anyone choosing to register in person on Election Day must also bring a photo ID that meets state requirements (see below).

Student Voting Options

All students who are eligible voters can:

  1. Vote at the polling place on Election Day. All polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the day of the election. You must be registered to vote in that precinct (see above). The polling place for De Pere is at 600 Grant St. Please bring your driver’s license, voting ID (if an out-of-state student), and your SNC student ID to the polls with you.
  2. If you prefer to vote in your permanent home precinct: Wisconsin residents: check your registration and confirm the location of your polling place at myvote.wi.gov.

  3. Vote early at the City Clerk’s office. This option is called “in-person absentee” voting. For those voting in De Pere, the City Clerk's office is located at 335 S. Broadway, just across the bridge from campus. You can also do this at your permanent home precinct if you prefer to be registered there. To confirm dates, available times, and clerk's location, see the myvote.wi.gov website. Be sure to bring with you a photo ID that meets state requirements (see below), and, if you live off campus, a proof of residence, such as a utility bill with your name and local address. (If you live on campus, the City Clerk will already have your proof of residence.)
  4. Vote absentee: If you are registered to vote either in De Pere or at your permanent home precinct, you may request an absentee ballot, to be sent to you on campus and returned by mail. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 5:00pm the Thursday before the election, but we recommend making your request as early as possible so there is adequate time to mail the ballot back to the Clerk’s Office. Photo ID Requirements in Wisconsin

Please note: Wisconsin is one of several states that requires photo identification for voting. For more complete information, see BringIt.wi.gov.

You can use any of the following forms of identification for voting in Wisconsin. These must either be current or expired after the last general election.

  1. A Wisconsin DOT-issued driver license, even if driving privileges are revoked or suspended, with or without a star in the right-hand corner.
  2. A Wisconsin DOT-issued identification card, with or without a star in the right-hand corner.
  3. A Wisconsin DOT-issued identification card or driver license without a photo issued under the religious exemption
  4. Military ID card issued by a U.S. uniformed service
  5. A U.S. passport
  6. An identification card issued by a federally recognized Indian tribe in Wisconsin (May be used even if expired before the most recent general election.

If you are an eligible voter, but you do not have one of these forms of identification, you can obtain a special St. Norbert College ID that will suffice for voting. Stop by Campus Card Services in Michels Commons to obtain a free special SNC ID. Out-of-state students, in particular, may need to use this option.

Remember, your regular student ID or an out of state driver’s license/state ID will not be accepted for voting purposes in Wisconsin. However, poll workers may ask for your student ID to prove your residency so we suggest bringing it with you.
