Trapshooting Club FAQ

What is Trapshooting?

Trapshooting is a subset of the sport of shooting clay pigeons or "clays" with shotguns.

How does Trapshooting work?

In a standard round 5 people will get at a position and will take turns shooting 5 shells each. Once the first 5 shells are fired each person will rotate 1 station to the right. This will be repeated until a total of 25 shells is fired.

Where do we shoot?

Currently, our club is fortunate to shoot at Brown County Sportsmen's Club in Green Bay, WI. We cannot thank them enough!

How much is each round of Trap Shooting?

At the moment, along with $12 for a box of ammo the rounds are $6 each. All in expect $18 per round as one box of ammo will be expended per round.

How many rounds do we play?

Usually, when we meet we play 2 rounds. If there are people that wish to do more we can play more, weather and time permitting.

When do we shoot?

We do not have a "set in stone" schedule and usually message each other when we are free to shoot. Fridays and Saturdays are the best times for most people to get out and shoot.

What do I need to join?

In order to join we need proof of competency with firearms handling. This can be in the form of Hunting Licenses, Concealed Carry permits, etc. If you have any questions about joining  contact the Club Advisor.

What shotgun should I use?

Generally, it is up to personal preference. In our club we have a mix of different actions. Namely, pump-action, semi-auto, and over under "O/U". Most commonly, many choose to use over under, but any type is accepted. The shotgun must also be in your possession.

What ammo should I bring?

Brown County Sportsmen's Club allows up to a 7 1/2 shot. The ammo must also be target loads. Currently, thanks to our Club Advisor we have shells for purchase at $12 a box. There are 25 shells per box.

Where do we store the Shotguns?

Shotguns can either be stored with Campus Safety in a locked safe or at your home residence. Shotguns are NOT to be stored in any residence hall or dorm. The same also goes for ammunition.

Do I need any prior Trapshooting experience?

No, while it is important to be competent with your shotgun no prior trapshooting experience is needed. After all, our club's main guiding principle is the education of people on the sport of Trapshooting and firearms.

What else do I need?

Due to the nature of shooting live rounds everyone MUST have ear and eye protection. Any ANSI rated glasses or similar eye wear is sufficient. In terms of ear protection, any shooting grade ear plugs or ear muffs will work.
