These tasks need your attention!
Last spring, your group had to recertify in order to be active for this year. That required you to make sure you had at least one officer that would still be here this year and to submit some information that we needed at the end of the year. Now, we're seeing that many of you have work to do for this fall. You should work your way down this list.
1. Contact your student organization advisor. Make sure that they are able to continue in this role this year. Plus, you should tell them if you want them to continue in this role. They want to know that you still need them. Once you've clarified that they will continue this year, please ask them to complete the advisor agreement.
2. As students try to join your group on mySNC, the default setting requires an officer to validate the request. There are currently 46 unvalidated requests waiting for a student organization to click a button that will allow them to join your group. Please validate those students that want to be a member of your organization.
3. If you did NOT participate in the Involvement Fair and aren't sure where to begin, start by scheduling a group meeting. Get your group together and start a conversation about what you want to get done this semester. It is also a great idea to schedule a meeting with your advisor. They can also help you come up with a game plan for the semester.
4. If it doesn't look like your organization has done anything by Long Weekend, we'll start to reach out to see if your group should be disolved.
5. We'll be sharing the list of LeaderShops soon! You're all invited to attend and learn skills that will help you manage your organization.
Other Items For You to Remember
As we told you during the OrgConnect meeting on Aug. 29, your group needs to do some things in order to maintain your recognition.
1. Every organization is required to complete one service project of their own at some point during the year. You can find potential projects on the Sturzl Center website. Eighty percent (80%) of your group must participate. (Greek and Independent groups need to complete one service project each semester.)
2. Every organization will need to have 80% of their members attend one Equity, Diversity and Inclusion event at some point during the year. You will need to keep track of what events people went to and submit at the end of the year. We linked an upcoming EDI event at the bottom of this email. (Greek and Independent groups need to have their members attend one EDI event each semester.)
3. Every organization needs to have an educational event at some point during the year. You will be asked to share those at the end of the year. (Greek and Independent groups need to complete one educational event each semester.)
Potential Events For Your Group
1. You're invited to participate in a virtual event, the second annual Catholic Nonviolence Initiative*zoom series focuses on Laudato Si’ and explores the connection between violence and the ecological crisis we are in.
This five session, October Monday series is provided at no cost. We are featuring 15 dynamic panelists and the zoom space is limited to university students and staff. (The general public can view the live streamed sessions.)
This series would be a great opportunity for you to organize a watch party for your club. We will also have a drawing for every student in attendance each evening for several students to receive an autographed book from one of our distinguished panelists.
The schedule, the registration links and a downloadable poster are all at https://cnifallseries.info
2. There's a Trunk or Treat event at the Howe Community Resource Center that needs your help! The event is October 27 from 4:00-6:00 pm and is held right on our Howe Community Campus at 526 S Monroe Ave. Participants decorate a car and pass out candy (we have extra candy). Last year, we had over 2000 participants. The link to register a car is:
