Welcome to Week 10!
It's the end of October and Wednesday is our first advisement day! I hope you have a great meeting with your advisor as you think about next semester. Here are this week's updates.
1. A message from the Career and Advising Center
In my short time at SNC I’ve been so impressed by the way Student Organizations are engaging corporate partners for professional development opportunities on and off-campus. With the integration of Academic Advising and Career Development, under our new leadership and structure, we are excited to find ways to collaborate!
Why Should Student Org Leaders Work with Us?
- Increased collaboration with employer partners leads to more funding as well as internship, job shadow, and future employment opportunities for all students.
- Encouraging students and employers to use Handshake increases transparency, pay equity, and access for all students.
- We work with a diverse array of employers – all industries – and they are eager to meet and support our students' learning.
- We can provide space, staff, and other resources to help make events the very best they can be. Our Advisors and Career Counselors would love to help promote events and we’d love student help making our events stronger.
- Collaboration and communication will help us avoid double-booking event dates and times and over-exposing certain types of employers while missing out on others.
Got ideas? Something coming up we should partner on? Just want to make sure your group knows about us? Email careers@snc.edu (or Meghan Walsh directly).
2. Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Events
Upcoming events that count as EDI events are linked below.
3. Potential Service Events
If you are looking for volunteer opportunities please check out the November edition of the Brown County Volunteer Center Volunteer Times. The Sturzl Center also shares that same listing on their Service Opportunities web page.
4. Intramural Basketball Registration
Intramural Basketball registration is due by Nov. 9. Create a team for your organization!
5. mySNC Events and Attendance
Be sure to create mySNC events for your organization so other groups are aware of the things are scheduled. Many groups and departments want to schedule events when they won't conflict with other groups' events. You can even look at events in calendar form. It's helpful for us to know what students attended your events and it's probably good for you to know what students attended your meetings. Taking attendance in mySNC is the best way to do that. If you have questions about how to create an event or take attendance, reach out to our office.
6. Upcoming LeaderShop
If you're electing new officers for spring semester, come to the LeaderShop on Nov. 8 at 4 pm where we'll talk about the best ways to transition to new officers for student organizations. Event is linked below.
Have a great week!
