About the book: Since at least the attacks of September 11, 2001, one of the most pressing political questions of the age has been whether Islam is hostile to religious freedom. In his book, Daniel Philpott offers an honest, clear-eyed answer to this question and seeks to establish a constructive middle ground in a fiery and long-lasting debate over Islam.
In addition, Dr. Philpott will be giving a 7pm lecture the same day, “Has the Catholic Church Rejected War? How to Answer Papal Calls for Peace.” Consider registering for each event!
Daniel Philpott, Ph.D. is Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame. He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University and specializes in religion and global politics, focusing on religious freedom, reconciliation, the political behavior of religious actors, and Christian political theology. His books include Just and Unjust Peace: An Ethic of Political Reconciliation (Oxford, 2012), Religious Freedom in Islam: The Fate of a Universal Human Right in the Muslim World (Oxford, 2019), and several others. He is currently writing a book that sets forth a political theology based on a Christian concept of justice. He is a Lay Dominican.
