On-Campus Employment
F-1 Students
- No prior authorization is required to work on campus.
- Employment must comply with federal regulations and SNC policies.
- You may apply for a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) only after securing employment.
J-1 Students
- Authorization from the CGE is required before starting work.
- Upon approval, the CGE will issue an employment authorization letter for your employer.
- Authorization is valid for up to 12 months or until the end of your DS-2019, whichever comes first.
- A new request is required if you change employers.
Hours
- Fall & Spring Semesters: Maximum 20 hours per week
- Official Breaks (winter, spring, summer): 40 hours per week permitted
Start and End Dates
- Employment may begin only after your SNC I-20 or DS-2019 is issued.
- You may begin on-campus employment no more than 30 days before the first day of classes.
- On-campus employment must end by your program date on your I-20 or DS-2019.
