Cystic Fibrosis Color Run

The Delta Phi Epsilon's Beta Chi chapter presents the 9th annual "Color The Campus" Cystic Fibrosis Color Run! We invite you to join us in coloring the campus on October 21st at 2:00 p.m. in front of the campus center! When you register, you will receive a Color Run T-shirt with complimentary water and snacks! All donations and purchases of the Color Run T-shirt will go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic fibrosis, or CF, is a rare, genetic disease that progressively limits the ability to breathe and tragically shortens the lives of those who are born with it. With your support, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) continues to lead the way in the fight against CF, fueling extraordinary medical and scientific progress. All proceeds from this event will fund research and treatment that will one day make CF stand for Cure Found. Thank you so much for supporting Delta Phi Epsilon and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and we cannot wait to see you all there! Registration will begin in October!

Dunk A Deeph ANAD Fundraiser SNC Day

This year at SNC Day Delta Phi Epsilon raised $1,058 in support of The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, Inc.® (ANAD) by "Dunking A Deeph" with a dunk tank! Since 1976, the foundation has been dedicated to the prevention and alleviation of eating disorders by providing many multifaceted programs for the entire eating disorder community. The foundation fully believes that early detection of eating disorders saves lives and works to educate parents, teachers, families, and communities about the dangers through a variety of mediums with their website, newsletters, and educational outreach events & programs. Continued support to SNC Cheerleading directly ensures the team's ability to compete in future competitions and maintain the level of success they have already achieved. Tips and Tricks 

Freshmen 

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is recognized in October. Take the time to educate yourself on what domestic violence is and how it can impact everyone. Be on the lookout for events happening on campus throughout October (a panel discussion on masculinity, purple prayer candles in the parish, etc.), and make an effort to reflect on the reality of domestic violence.

Sophomores 

With Domestic Violence Awareness Month occurring in October, it is important that we use this time and our voices to speak out against harmful stereotypes and perceptions. SNC is home to so many wonderful people from many different pasts and experiences. Make an effort to initiate dialogue with your peers in regard to the infinite and complex realities of domestic violence, which impacts about 1 in 4 college students on average.

Juniors 

Take the time to become aware of and familiarize yourself with the resources that SNC provides for victims and survivors. CAPS is a great place to start, as well as becoming aware of survivor support groups and “office hours” to meet with a trained advocate that are offered through the Survivor Safe Space in the Alumni House on campus. By making yourselves aware of the resources provided, you can be better equipped to help those around you in their time of need. 

Seniors 

 Familiarize yourself with the warning signs that domestic abuse is happening. Some of these warning signs can include; withdrawing from friends, classes, teams, clubs, and any other activity, stating they are changing their behavior because their partner is telling them to, and that they are uncomfortable with things their partner is doing with them. These are just a few signs of domestic violence and definitely not the only ones. Knowing the signs and knowing how to reach out could save a life.

History and Traditions 

Heritage Week

St. Norbert College has come a long way from its humble beginnings in October 1898, when Abbot Bernard Pennings, a Dutch immigrant priest, founded the college to train young men for the priesthood. Abbot Pennings soon discovered a need for higher education in northeastern Wisconsin and started a commerce program for lay students.

After World War II, enrollments increased dramatically, and in 1952 the college became coeducational. Abbot Pennings continued his leadership role until he retired in 1955. His basic philosophy of education “to perfect the personal, moral and intellectual development of each student” remains unchanged.

As the second president, Father Dennis Burke promoted the expansion of the college and anticipated the student population would eventually reach 2,000. Dr. Robert Christin, who became president in 1968, implemented the course system and the academic divisional structure.

In 1973, Neil Webb, a former faculty member and vice president, became the new president. He had strong fiscal management abilities and established the first substantial endowment for the college.

Becoming president in 1983, Dr. Thomas Manion brought national recognition to the college and led the expansion of facilities and the development of academic programs.

Enrollment grew to 2,000 students. Under his leadership, the college renovated old buildings and constructed new ones including the Bemis International Center.

When Dr. Manion retired in 2000, Dr. William J. Hynes took the helm. President Hynes was the visionary and driving force behind the Mulva Library and played a crucial role in academic reform, including general education review. The college's commitment to environmental sustainability was renewed under his leadership.

In 2008, Mr. Thomas Kunkel succeeded Dr. Hynes as the seventh president of St. Norbert College. Under President Kunkel the college's endowment and enrollment grew, Michels Commons was renovated, the Gehl-Mulva Science Center brought us top-notch facilities and made room for an exciting collaboration with the Medical College of Wisconsin, and students received the ever-promised pool on campus as part of the Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
