The Green Knight Women’s Soccer team faced the Dominican Stars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 23, 2023. The match took place at Donald J. Schneider Stadium located in De Pere, Wisconsin. After 90 minutes of competitive gameplay, the NACC conference matchup ended in a 2-2 tie.
To start off the first half of the match, both teams took the ball down to the opposing team’s goal but were prevented from scoring by great saves from the goalkeepers. It would, however, be the Stars that struck first with a goal from Ava Mascoe-Talbott eight minutes and 56 seconds into the match. Mascoe-Talbott was assisted by Natalia Lopez. The Green Knights responded quickly with a goal of their own only 19 seconds later. The goal was scored by Haley Leadingham (‘24) and assisted by Meredith Posanski (‘26). The score remained 1-1 for the rest of the half despite both team’s efforts to break the tie. The Stars had 11 goal attempts in the first half compared to the Green Knight’s four. The Green Knight’s goalkeeper, Klara Banemark (‘25), did her job for the Knights, collecting five saves in the first half.
The second half of the match started off with the Stars applying pressure right away. Banemark saved another goal attempt by the Stars, but Mia Tauilahu assisted Lopez in a goal for the Stars 51 minutes and one second into the match, putting the Stars up 2-1. Although not as quickly as the first half, the Green Knights eventually responded 64 minutes and 57 seconds into the match with a goal by Mallory Names (‘24) and an assist from Abby Thompson (‘25). With a tied score of 2-2, both teams would continue making shots in an attempt to pull ahead. The goal attempts were fewer in the second half, the Green Knights having five and the Stars having six. Banemark would continue her strong defensive game, recording three more saves in the second half for a total of eight saves in the match.
The results of this match would give the Green Knights a 2-1-1 conference record and a ranking of sixth in the conference. The Green Knights returned to practice in preparation for their next match against conference opponent Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday Sept. 27, 2023.
