On March 19, 2024, “Stardew Valley” received its 1.6 update, said by its creator, ConcernedApe, to be the last major update to the game. And ‘major’ might be an understatement.
“Stardew Valley” was released eight years ago as a farming simulator in the likes of “Harvest Moon.” Some of the features of the game include seasonal farming, fishing, mining, combat, a witch and his estranged wife, a shadow person, archaeology, a soulless corporation and so much more. All of that was created and maintained by just one person, Eric Barone, under the alias of ConcernedApe.
He had previously mentioned that he was working on a small quality-of-life update for the modder community of the game. However, as he tinkered with the update, he kept adding until it became the gigantic 1.6 update. The update adds moss, raccoons, green rain, colored jellies, more festivals, books, turtles and big chests, for storage, among other additions. It also made fishing viable (and I cannot tell enough how much I love fishing in “Stardew Valley”). All of these changes have reinvigorated the thriving community, which is still figuring out all the new features.
CA is currently still making minor updates to “Stardew Valley,” but he mainly focuses his time now on his upcoming game, “Haunted Chocolatier.” The 1.6 update has enlarged an already vast gaming experience that will surely keep the fanbase satiated until the new game.
