Graduating in 2022, Alei Mandli returned to St. Norbert in October 2022 as the Engagement Center Coordinator. Having been only at her position for a year, she has acquainted herself with the role of coordinator as well as a number of other responsibilities. Here is what she has to say about her position as well as responsibilities.
After her graduation, she worked in Appleton for a few months. However, she did not enjoy her job there and looked for jobs in De Pere and saw an opportunity at SNC. That is how she ended up returning to her alma mater as the Engagement Center Coordinator—the position in charge of student philanthropy as well as running Phonathon. The new job did come with quite the learning curve as she was not aware of Phonathon before taking the job. Previously, as a student, she was involved with Entertainment 2 Knight (E2K), a campus entertainment group, as a graphic designer.
Now, after just over a year in her position, she said that a lot of things have changed. One thing she was glad to experience was overseeing the beginning of the semester after joining around mid-term last year. Perhaps the biggest change, though, was the change in working location. The Engagement Center was previously located in the Pennings Activity Center (PAC), which is currently being rebuilt into a new academic building. Reflecting on the move, Alei said that though it was a bit difficult to transition into the new location on the third floor of Todd Wehr Hall, ultimately, the new spot has been more convenient than the PAC was.
Thinking about the current school year, Alei mentioned how only four student callers returned and that by the end of the semester, six new students have been hired, a notched success for the center. She also mentioned the fundraising goal of $85,000 for the center that has progressed smoothly since August. Ultimately, she hopes that all callers have good experiences at the center.
Outside the center, she has also brought back Bert’s philanthropy, a newsletter highlighting student philanthropy, one of her responsibilities. She hopes to advance the newsletter even further. As part of that goal, she has done surveys along with studying the relationship between departments in the college to understand better the collaborative efforts that benefit student philanthropy.
In final thoughts, she expressed thankfulness for a very successful year thus far and expects even more for the next.
