The dates for the 2025 NFL draft have been announced. From April 24 to the 26, one of the most highly anticipated U.S. sports events will be held in Green Bay, just miles from St. Norbert’s campus. Events will include a free “Football Festival” and a series of games that will be available for any fan wanting to show off their own skills. The past draft was held in Kansas City, drawing 312,000 individuals for the festivities. Green Bay is considered one of the most iconic and historic cities in football, drawing fans from all teams during the regular and off-season. The draft is expected to bring in tens of thousands to the Green Bay area and will no doubt spill into De Pere as well.
This event is bound to have a large economic impact on the surrounding areas, as past drafts have brought hundreds of millions of dollars into the hosting city. Green Bay has applied to host the draft each year of the modern football era, but this will be the first year they have been chosen, and only the second time in history that the draft has been hosted in Wisconsin. The last time Wisconsin hosted the draft was in a Milwaukee hotel in the year 1939. The sport itself has changed and grown dramatically since. Green Bay and the Packers have been improving the area for years, including the Title Town campus and the surrounding infrastructure. It will be exciting to see if Green Bay can accommodate the number of people the draft will bring in and the growth that will likely happen in preparation.
