¡UNO! ¡DOS! ¡TRÉ! Countdown for Green Day’s New Album

On October 24, punk rock outfit Green Day released their first single since 2021, titled “The American Dream Is Killing Me.” The band members, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool also announced that their next album, Saviors, will be released on January 19th of next year.

Their newest single critiques the modern American way of life (shocking, I know. I too thought something else reading the title). They go through everything that makes current life simply amazing: conspiracy theories, class warfare, TikTok, mental health issues and so much more. As the first single from the album, the song sets the tone of the next album as something less angry than “American Idiot” and less hopeful than “Revolution Radio” (not that it was very hopeful) but something bleaker that is still full of energy. The accompanying music video shows the band performing in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, where everyone is running from and to everyone . In the midst of the pandemonium, there are snipers trying to defend themselves, some successful, some not. In the end, one of the shooters hits a living civilian—a not so subtle nod to the title of the song.

For their upcoming fourteenth album, Green Day is again teaming up with producer Rob Cavallo, who worked with them on “Dookie” and "American Idiot". This seemingly signals that “Saviors” will sound similar to those albums. Either way, fans are ready to listen to the album as soon as it drops.
