Make SNC your palette

Art and design speak to us in ways that words can’t. Art helps us figure out who we are. It grounds us in community and colors our dreams. When you pursue an art degree at St. Norbert College, you’ll be well-trained in visual design principles, artistic techniques, critical thinking and creative problem-solving. You’ll learn how to network with other artists and with galleries, learning practical business skills that will help you advance your career in art.

Academic paths within the art major

We are one of the few liberal arts colleges in the U.S. to offer a distinctive sequence in graphic design. When pursuing a major, graduates of this sequence earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. A graphic design minor is also offered. Another path students take is our arts management certificate program.

You’ll want to look into the annual Donald P. Taylor Scholarship, which is awarded to one or more art students at SNC.

The art discipline at SNC emphasizes technical craft as well as contemporary art and design theory and practice. In the tradition of the liberal arts, our students are creative makers and doers whose work complements their other classes and larger experiences.

Arts management

In the arts, art is just the start

Artists need a platform – to be seen, to be heard, to be appreciated. That is the critical role of arts management. With an arts management certificate from SNC, you can find countless opportunities in this exciting field. Perhaps you’ll be CEO of a symphony orchestra or development director for an arts non-profit ... owner of a music academy or art gallery ... manager of a touring theatre company ... director of a museum. Marketers, agents, executive directors, conservators and event coordinators are just a small selection of the skilled professionals that make the arts management industry hum.

In the certificate program, you’ll learn about the inner workings of arts organizations and how societal factors impact them. You’ll be taught strategic and marketing planning and implementation, operational and financial goal setting and strategies, and stakeholder management.

Academic paths with an arts management certificate

You can earn a certificate in arts management at SNC and pursue work in a variety of different sectors post-graduation. True to our liberal arts focus, this certificate program also allows you to choose electives that align with your areas of academic interest in art, music, and theater, as well as in leadership, entrepreneurship, ethics, communication, human resources and other facets of organizational management.

Elevate your arts management education

Internships are a particularly meaningful way to add real-world experience to your classroom learning in arts management. Our region is rich with arts organizations in which you can gain insight and expertise, including symphonies, theaters, galleries, museums, performing arts centers and more. The college’s own arts offerings are extensive, as well, and provide an excellent environment for observation and learning.
